Nutrition Advisor Course Content

Natural Healthcare College

The Nutrition Advisor diploma course is divided into 6 modules that are fully referenced, providing you with research data on a wealth of topics. Most of the study can take place in the comfort of your own home. In order to comply with course accrediting bodies, attendance at 1 x two-day tutorial is required before the end of module 6. Upon completion of each module there is a written homework assignment to submit for assessment. Written feedback is given for each assignment, and email and telephone support is available if needed. All tutorials are held in Devon

The overall emphasis of course assignments is for you to demonstrate your ability to give clear and accurate nutritional/dietary/lifestyle advice. The modules are the first six of the Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy course so should you decide to continue your studies and move on to the next stage, you will not need to start a completely new course

Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy

While the emphasis of the course is on nutrients and lifestyle factors such as the influences of stress and physical inactivity, in order to give appropriate advice it’s vital to understand how the human body functions and how its different systems interact with one another (anatomy and physiology). Our integration of these at strategic points is aimed to help students associate the structure and functions of the body in relation to how inappropriate diet and lifestyle can cause disruption of normal processes (pathology). Don’t worry if science has never been your strongpoint; these are fascinating subjects and their inclusion in the course is aimed to help you gain a deeper understanding of the effects nutrients have in the body. Many students who were initially somewhat in awe of this science found they developed a deep passion for it as they discovered the web-like interactions of the body’s organs and systems that profoundly affect us all

Our integrated approach to learning incorporates the following topics:
  • Anatomy, physiology, pathology and pathophysiology
  • Basic biochemistry
  • Causes and triggers of disease in relation to digestive complaints and blood sugar control
  • Carbohydrates, proteins and fats (lipids)
  • Bowel flora
  • Beverages
  • The influence on health of macronutrients, micronutrients, vitamins and minerals

  • The influences of lifestyle and environment on health
  • The influence of stress on the digestive system
  • The vital role played by diet in issues such as type 2 diabetes, energy production, fatigue and stress control
  • Weight control and obesity in children and adults
  • Dietary requirements through life stages
  • Food labelling and health claims
  • Evidence-based research of modern nutrition

''I really enjoyed the Nutrition Advisor Diploma course and became increasingly enthralled by the subject as the course progressed. It can be a challenge to stay focused when undertaking distance learning because of the distractions of family, work and so on, but I found that the college, and especially my tutor Jackie, helped enormously to keep me on track, and the thrill of passing the exam at the end cannot be over-emphasised!''
